Wimbledon Debenture Tickets are the only tickets to the Championships that can be legally bought and sold. Most Debenture holders will sell some of their Debenture Tickets and there is an active secondary market where Debenture Tickets are bought and sold.
It is also possible to swap your Debenture Tickets with other Debenture Ticket holders.
A complicated process, historically…
To exchange a Debenture Ticket, historically, you would have needed to find another person willing to swap a Debenture Ticket for the Court and Day on which you wish to attend.
If you found a willing Debenture Ticket holder, you would have to trust each other to post highly valuable bearer-presented tickets to each other. As this would constitute a significant risk, swapping Debenture Tickets has been a relatively unusual activity in the past.
A further complication has been the AELTC not issuing the tickets until around 6 weeks before the Tournament starts. Until the tickets are issued, the seat numbers are not known.
Despite the logistical difficulties, there is considerable demand for ticket holders wanting to acquire additional tickets for specific days, or to get seats on another part of the court.
Wimbledon Debenture Ticket Exchange Platform
To coincide with the introduction of Wimbledon e-tickets, Green and Purple will shortly be launching an online platform to facilitate the swapping of Wimbledon Debenture tickets.
The platform will allow Debenture Ticket holders to exchange tickets electronically using a secure online process.
The platform will be launching in Q2 of 2022.
