What Happened to the Wimbledon Middle-Sunday Rest Day?

The traditional day of rest at the Championships has now been scrapped. Why was this decision taken and what will be on the middle-Sunday schedule?
The traditional day of rest
Unique amongst the Grand Slam Tournaments, The Wimbledon Championships has always had a break in the schedule on the middle Sunday of the Tournament fortnight.
Historically, there have been a number of reasons for scheduling a day's break in play, including leaving a window for grass and court maintenance.
From 2022, for the first time at the Championships, there will be no rest day and play will take place on all 14 days of the Tournament.
Why did the AELTC decide to scrap the rest day?
The rest day has often led to scheduling challenges, especially when the weather in the first week refused to play ball.
To catch up after the middle-Sunday break, the following ‘Manic Monday’ was usually reserved for the whole fourth round of the Men’s and Ladies’ Singles matches.
According to the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), advances in grass technology and maintenance techniques mean that the grass surfaces no longer need a mid-Tournament recovery day.
Adding an uninterrupted day of play means more people than ever will get to enjoy the event.
What will happen on the middle-Sunday at the Championships 2022?
In 2022 the middle-Sunday falls on 3 July. Instead of cramming the entire Men's & Ladies' 4th Rounds into the one Manic Monday, these rounds will be spread over Sunday 3 July and Monday 4 July.

We had a great time on Saturday
"Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time on Saturday and that it all went smoothly. I didn't realise it was better than making a booking in a restaurant, but even then we were very lucky to get a beautiful table for 6 at the Wingfield restaurant. It was the only one available! Thanks for helping me organise this nice day with the family and let's stay in touch for future years."
