May 2023

May marks the culmination of the European clay swing and ushers in the highly anticipated second Grand Slam of the year, the French Open.

Rome

The Italian 1000 event promises a formidable field, with players vying for success on the clay courts of Rome. While Rafael Nadal aims to compete, he has been out of competitive action since the Australian Open due to injury. Novak Djokovic, recovering from an elbow injury that forced him to miss the Madrid Masters, seeks to defend his Rome title.

The likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, and Stefanos Tsitsipas pose significant challenges to Djokovic's aspirations. Leading the Italian charge is Jannik Sinner, bolstered by a group of talented wildcard entrants, including Matteo Arnaldi, Francesco Passaro, Giulio Zeppieri, and Luca Nardi, along with seasoned veteran Fabio Fognini.

On the women's side, Iga Swiatek aims to extend her clay court dominance and defend her title in Rome. Ons Jabeur, last year's finalist, seeks to go one step further. Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina, and Caroline Garcia add further competition to the mix. The wildcard entries, featuring Italian players such as Sara Errani, Lucrezia Stefanini, Lucia Bronzetti, Nuria Brancaccio, Camilla Rosatello, Matilde Paoletti, Diletta Cherubini, and Lisa Pigato, promise an added layer of excitement.

French Open

All eyes turn to Roland Garros, where Rafael Nadal races against time to regain fitness. With a record 14 French Open titles, including the previous year's triumph, Nadal remains a formidable force.

Carlos Alcaraz seeks his maiden title at the event, while Novak Djokovic aims for his third. Former finalists Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud believe they can break through this year, and Andrey Rublev arrives with a significant clay court title already under his belt in 2023. Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev have also enjoyed strong starts to the season, while Holger Rune has proven himself a force to be reckoned with. The French Open promises to be a captivating tournament with numerous players in contention.

In the women's draw, Iga Swiatek, a two-time champion out of the last three French Opens, seeks to fend off the chasing pack and add another title to her collection. Barbora Krejcikova, the 2021 champion, has already claimed a 1000-level title this year in Dubai, defeating Swiatek in the final. Ons Jabeur, with her variety of shots, presents a formidable challenge to any opponent in Paris, as do powerhouses Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina.

As May unfolds, tennis fans eagerly anticipate the excitement and drama that will unfold on the clay courts of Rome and ultimately lead to the pinnacle of the clay court season, the French Open.

We had a great time on Saturday

"Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time on Saturday and that it all went smoothly. I didn't realise it was better than making a booking in a restaurant, but even then we were very lucky to get a beautiful table for 6 at the Wingfield restaurant. It was the only one available! Thanks for helping me organise this nice day with the family and let's stay in touch for future years."
