The Month Ahead in Tennis - December 2023

December will be a period for rest and recovery for most players, before pre-season preparation begins. There are a few exhibition events taking place in December, offering match practice but no ranking points. The 2024 season itself begins on 29th December 2023, with the United Cup in Australia.

Mixed team event to kick off the season

The United Cup sees both male and female players from different countries battle it out to be crowned champion. The likes of Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jessica Pegula, Casper Ruud and Caroline Garcia are all scheduled to play. ATP and WTA ranking points are up for grabs, with a player able to earn up to 500 points across the event.

The United States won the event last year, but the event will change in format slightly for the upcoming edition. Each tie will consist of one men's singles, one women's singles and a mixed doubles. Last time, there were two extra singles matches (one men's and one women's). The event will take place in Sydney and Perth.
