2025

After an off-season that always feels brief, tennis is back for the 2025 season. With only two weeks of tournaments before the first Grand Slam of the year, the top players are eager to hitting the ground running.

Swiatek, Zverev and Gauff among those competing for the United Cup

The first event of the year is already underway in Australia, with the mixed teams competition, the United Cup, having started on 27th December. The strongest teams on paper include Poland with Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz, the United States with Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz, and Greece with Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Alex Zverev, Elena Rybakina, Alex de Minaur and Jasmine Paolini will also kick off their 2025 campaigns in this event.

Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic, Grigor Dimitrov and Holger Rune start their seasons at the Brisbane ATP 250, with Nick Kyrgios making his comeback at the event. Andrey Rublev will look to defend his Hong Kong ATP 250 title. Aryna Sabalenka will play the Brisbane WTA 500 ahead of her Australian Open title defence.

Sinner looking to pick up where he left off in the new season

Jannik Sinner began his incredible 2024 season by winning his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne, and will go into the tournament without having played a warm up event, as will Carlos Alcaraz and last year’s runner up Daniil Medvedev. Should Alcaraz win the event, he will become the youngest man ever to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Djokovic will hope for another victory at his most successful Grand Slam tournament, and will have former rival Andy Murray in his coaching team. Unranked Kyrgios will play his first Grand Slam since 2022, having used a protected ranking to enter, and former champion Stan Wawrinka has received a wildcard.

Sabalenka will go for three Australian Open titles in a row as the top seed. Swiatek, Gauff, Paolini and Rybakina will be aiming to stop her, as well as Qinwen Zheng. Daria Saville and Alja Tomljanovic are among the Australians to receive a wildcard for the event.
