The Month Ahead in Tennis - November 2023

Another tennis season draws to a close in November, with the WTA and ATP Finals taking place in Cancun and Turin respectively.

WTA Finals

The draw for the season-ending event brought about two strong but well-balanced groups. The Bacaler Group features Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari, who got in following Karolina Muchova's withdrawal.

The Chetumal Group contains Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova. The group stages are a round robin format, with the top two going through to the Semi Finals.

ATP Finals

The line-up for the final ATP event of the season is not fully known yet. Five players have already qualified: Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, and Andrey Rublev. The other three players currently in the qualifying spots are Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alex Zverev, and Holger Rune, but Hubert Hurkacz, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, and more, are firmly in contention.

The Paris ATP 1000 event will decide who makes it to Turin. Djokovic has not played since winning the US Open, but will return here as the top seed. Alcaraz also returns from a brief injury layoff. Two Turin hopefuls, Hurkacz and Ruud, could meet in the Third Round, as could Rune and Fritz. Those matches could be pivotal in deciding who qualifies.
