June 2026 Tennis Preview: What It Means for Wimbledon
by Luke Walker
June
With Roland Garros over, attention now turns to the grass-court season and the build-up to Wimbledon. The next few weeks are always important, as the move from clay to grass tends to be the most demanding surface change of the year.
Sinner and Djokovic look set to head straight to Wimbledon
Carlos Alcaraz will miss the entire grass-court season because of a wrist injury, which leaves a major gap at the top of the men's field. Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have not entered any grass events before Wimbledon, although wildcards remain possible after their early exits at Roland Garros.
Sinner is expected to use this period to recover after a long clay season in which he played, and won, a large number of matches. Djokovic has played a lighter schedule this year, but he may also decide that the best preparation is to arrive at The Championships as fresh as possible.
That will make the smaller grass events even more important for the chasing pack. With Alcaraz absent and Sinner and Djokovic potentially skipping the warm-up events, players such as Alex Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Jack Draper and Lorenzo Musetti have a real opportunity to build momentum and strengthen their Wimbledon credentials before the draw is made.

Halle and Queen's take on added importance
Alex Zverev leads the field in Halle, with Felix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton and Daniil Medvedev also entered. At Queen's, Alex de Minaur is set to be the top seed, while Lorenzo Musetti and Jack Draper are both expected to return from injury.
These events may give the clearest indication yet of who can challenge for Wimbledon. In a year where some of the biggest names are either absent or managing their workload carefully, strong grass-court results in June could have more influence than usual on expectations for Centre Court and No.1 Court.
That is especially true in Draper's case. If he returns well and builds form quickly, interest around his home Grand Slam is likely to rise sharply.
Strong women's fields before Wimbledon
Elena Rybakina has taken a wildcard into Queen's after her early exit in Paris. Jessica Pegula and last year's Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova are also set to play there.
The Berlin WTA 500 will feature one of the strongest fields of the month, with Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina and Coco Gauff all entered, along with the rest of the top 10 apart from Iga Swiatek. Swiatek is expected to play in Bad Homburg the following week as part of her Wimbledon title defence preparations.
The women's side of Wimbledon has been highly unpredictable in recent years, so these grass-court weeks should offer some of the best clues yet as to who is adapting quickest and who may arrive at SW19 as the players to beat.
What June could mean for Wimbledon
June is when the Wimbledon picture usually sharpens. Results on grass tend to matter more than those on any other surface, because the window is short and some players adapt much better than others.
The biggest questions this month are likely to be around preparation and fitness. Can Draper return strongly enough to build real momentum? Can Zverev, Medvedev or Musetti use the warm-up events to put themselves in the conversation? And if Sinner and Djokovic arrive without any grass matches, will freshness outweigh the lack of competitive preparation?
On the women's side, Queen's, Berlin and Bad Homburg should give a much clearer view of which contenders are most comfortable on grass. For buyers planning ahead, these events may also help shape which players are most likely to drive demand once Wimbledon gets closer.
