September 2025

The final Grand Slam of the year took place in New York, as well as the start of the Asian swing.

Alcaraz rises to the top in New York and the world

At the US Open, Novak Djokovic beat home favourite Taylor Fritz in the Quarter Finals, meaning he has reached all four Grand Slam Semi Finals this season. He wasn’t able to go one better in the three previous, and this time was no different, after a straight sets defeat to Carlos Alcaraz.

In a tight battle, Felix Auger-Aliassime came through against Alex de Minaur to reach only his second career Grand Slam Semi Final. He was joined by Jannik Sinner, after he beat compatriot Lorenzo Musetti. Sinner then beat Auger-Aliassime in four sets to set up the third consecutive Alcaraz vs Sinner Grand Slam Final, but this time with the world number 1 ranking on the line.

A scintillating display from Alcaraz meant he got the win in four sets and claimed his second US Open title, and the world number 1 ranking for the first time since June 2023.

Sabalenka defends US Open crown

Having been double bagelled in the Wimbledon Final by Iga Swiatek, it was a monumental victory for Amanda Anisimova over the Pole in the Quarter Finals. Naomi Osaka bea Karolina Muchova to set up a fascinating Semi Final, which was won by Anisimova. Aryna Sabalenka benefitted from Marketa Vondrousova’s withdrawal in the Quarter Finals, and faced an in-form Jessica Pegula in the Semi Finals. The world number 1 had to come from a set down to advance, and then beat another American in Anisimova to win back-to-back US Open titles.

Alcaraz, Swiatek and Sinner pick up titles

Carlos Alcaraz won the Tokyo ATP 500, beating Taylor Fritz in the Final, although he was forced to withdraw from the upcoming Shanghai Masters shortly after lifting the title. Jannik Sinner bounced back from his US Open Final defeat by winning the Beijing ATP 500, taking down teenager Learner Tien in the Final.

17-year-old Iva Jovic lifted her first WTA title, winning the WTA 500 event in Guadalajara over Emiliana Arango in the Final. Iga Swiatek won the Seoul WTA 500 event as the 1st seed, defeating 2nd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the Final.

In the ongoing Beijing WTA 1000 event, top seed Swiatek was taken out by Emma Navarro, and Mirra Andreeva lost to Sonay Kartal. Aryna Sabalenka is absent, but Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova and Jasmine Paolini all made it to the Quarter Final stage.
