Wimbledon Anniversary Couple

The Wimbledon Championships is one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. Tickets sell out fast. It is possible to give certain types of tickets as a gift.

We explain when you can, and cannot, give Wimbledon Tickets as a gift and how you should go about it.

What are the rules?

The AELTC states in the Wimbledon Tickets terms and conditions of sale, that "...tickets cannot be given to someone else; they are not suitable for gifts".

Although this clause seems categorical, there are in fact a number of ways in which you can legitimately make a gift of Wimbledon Tickets:

Wimbledon Public Ballot Tickets

According to the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC):

"Tickets cannot be given to someone else. The original ticket holder needs to attend The Championships"

Wimbledon Ballot tickets are strictly non-transferrable and must not be sold, transferred or advertised for sale or transfer whether on the internet, in newspapers or elsewhere.

However, if you win the Public Ballot you can take another person with you and you can therefore effectively gift that individual ticket to the person joining you at the Championships.

Any tickets which are transferred, advertised or offered for sale or transfer will be void.

You could offer to pay for someone's ticket if they are successful in the Public Ballot.

Another option might be to ask a friend to camp out with you in the famous Wimbledon Queue and offer to pay for their ticket as a present.

Note there will not be a Wimbledon Public Ballot in 2022, as these tickets have been allocated to those who were were successful in the Public Ballot for the cancelled 2020 Tournament.

Wimbledon Debenture Tickets

Wimbledon Debenture Tickets are the only tickets to the Championships that can be legally transferred to another person.  Debenture tickets are suitable to be given as a present.

Debenture Tickets are available for Centre Court and No. 1 Court, and would make a wonderful gift for any tennis fan.

In addition to watching the world's top players from seats on the same level as the Royal Box, Debenture Ticket holders are also granted access to the exclusive Debenture restaurants, bars and lounges.

There is an active secondary market for Debenture Tickets. Debenture tickets are usually sold in pairs, so you can either give a pair of tickets as a present or invite an individual to accompany you.

We had a great time on Saturday

"Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time on Saturday and that it all went smoothly. I didn't realise it was better than making a booking in a restaurant, but even then we were very lucky to get a beautiful table for 6 at the Wingfield restaurant. It was the only one available! Thanks for helping me organise this nice day with the family and let's stay in touch for future years."
