The Wimbledon Championships is one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world, and tickets sell out fast. It is possible to buy and give tickets as a gift, but depending on the type of tickets you have, it is not necessarily straightforward.
We explain when you can and cannot give Wimbledon Tickets as a gift and how you should go about it.
Wimbledon Public Ballot Tickets
According to the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC):
“Tickets cannot be given to someone else; they are not suitable for gifts. The original ticket holder needs to attend The Championships”
Wimbledon Ballot tickets are strictly non-transferrable and must not be sold, transferred or advertised for sale or transfer whether on the internet, in newspapers or elsewhere.
Any tickets which are transferred, advertised or offered for sale or transfer will be void.
Of course you could offer to pay for someone’s ticket if they are successful in the Public Ballot.
Another option might be to ask a friend to camp out with you in the famous Wimbledon Queue and offer to pay for their ticket as a present.
Note there will not be a Wimbledon Public Ballot in 2022 as these tickets have been allocated to those who were were successful in the Public Ballot for the cancelled 2020 Tournament.
Wimbledon Debenture Tickets
Wimbledon Debenture Tickets are the only tickets to the Championships that can be legally bought and sold, and they are therefore suitable to be given as a present.
Debenture Tickets are available for Centre Court and No. 1 Court and would make a wonderful gift for any tennis fan.
In addition to watching the world’s top players from seats on the same level as the Royal Box, Debenture Ticket holders are also granted access to the exclusive Debenture restaurants, bars and lounges.
There is an active secondary market for Debenture Tickets in the lead up to the Tournament. Debenture tickets are usually sold in pairs so you can either give a pair of tickets as a present or invite an individual to accompany you.
Debenture Tickets can be purchased through Green and Purple and transferred to a recipient of your choice via the myWimbledon App.
Wimbledon Gift Vouchers
You can also give a fellow tennis fan a taster of the Wimbledon experience all year round with a Wimbledon Gift Voucher.
A gift voucher will give you a access to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum and a tour of the Grounds.
You can either purchase a physical Wimbledon Gift Voucher, which will be posted to you, or an e-gift voucher.
Wimbledon Gift Shop
For anyone attending the Grounds there is a gift shop selling clothing, equipment and accessories. The Gift Shop is also online where any of the products can be purchased as a gifts.
